Memories of Our Garden
Lettuce, zucchini, cucumber, banana pepper, watermelon, cantaloupe, various tomatoes and herbs were grown this past spring and early summer with divers results. Everything from abundant daily tomatoes and peppers to rotting maggot filled cantaloupe! Living in a new place we learned to adapt our previous experience from a large plowed garden to containers. Far easier to water and weed but results were not as good over all with the exception of the herbs. We did learn that cantaloupe can be grown vertically yet the bug problem at our new location is far worse. Next season I will have to address the bug problem. I am considering dish soap....there is a great desire to not use pesticides, as my little ones eat off the plants. Little Mommy and Minnie Me both gobble up the cherry tomatoes as fast as they can pick 'em. This year was VERY hot and when it did rain, it was WAY too much. We pulled all the plants last week, the dried and the rotten. Only the pepper is remaining healthy. Planning a fall garden is in the works. All in all being able to garden in some form has helped heal my spirit in changing homes. There is joy in participating with the creator and working with my hands side by side with my loved ones.
